Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche offers instructions on the practice of Severance or Chöd, which essentially is how to achieve buddhahood through offering the flesh and blood of your body to the Three Jewels, and feeding it to all beings of the six realms. The treatise that we are going to use for this instruction was composed by Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Taye and is called The Garden of All Joy. It’s called that because the subject with which it deals, this practice of severance, is something that brings joy, delight, and satisfaction to all beings, both in nirvana and samsara, like a beautiful garden of lotus flowers. The text begins with an initial homage: “I prostrate to the gurus and the great mother.”
